International Connections

Styles & Co have been acting as accountants and advisers to The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain Ltd for over 15 years. The Association was formed by post war refugees arriving in the UK who needed to help each other establish new roots in this country. In doing so, they wished to preserve their culture, language and history whilst all the time hoping one day to see a free Ukraine.

With a membership of more than 30,000 and Community centres "Homes" where members meet in more than 35 towns and cities in the UK, the Association is certainly a thriving organisation continually improving its services and benefits available to its members.

Recently, in London, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II presented the Royal Institute of International Affairs' first ever "Chatham House Prize" to the President of Ukraine, HE Victor Yushchenko, as the individual they considered made the most significant contribution to the improvement of international relations in 2004.

Shortly after the presentation, our senior partner, Les Styles, was privileged to attend an emotional audience with the President together with the British Ambassador to the Ukraine and a wide cross-section of members of the Association including a number of original refugees who fled the country in 1946 together with many second and third generation descendants. Les comments, "To be part of a ground breaking event when links between East and West were strengthened was truly memorable and the emotion of the occasion will live with me for a long time."

More than ever before, we appreciate the importance of friendship - friendship between countries, friendship between people and friendship between us and our clients. Long may it continue.
