Converting from Sage to Xero? Here’s what you need to know
There are many benefits to introducing cloud accounting – and Xero in particular – to your business.
But what of the logistics?
If you’re considering making the switch from Sage to Xero, then you’re in the right place. In this blog post, we zero in on the most important aspects and explain what you need to know – and do – before you take the plunge.
Switching to Xero should be simple
The quickest and easiest way of switching to Xero from Sage is to simply start back at square one. In other words, enter your opening balance and go from there.
However, if you’ve been using Sage for quite some time, you’ll have built up valuable historical financial information – and it’s always useful to keep that all in one place, particularly when faced with an audit, or when you need to compare the performance of your business to an earlier period.
So, you now have two choices: manually input the data into Xero yourself, or use Xero’s recommended conversion platform Movemybooks.
And here’s where it can get a little tricky:
Given that you’re moving from one platform to another, each with their own specific features and functions, it’s pretty much impossible to grab an exact copy of all of your data. If you opt to use a conversion tool, some of the information won’t transfer across, while some will look different when converted.
It’s therefore incredibly important that your historical data is reviewed and ordered prior to conversion, or you could end up with more work on your hands when you start using Xero.
Movemybooks is very easy to use, with simple step-by-step instructions guiding you through the process. But we recommend that you sit down with a Xero-savvy accountant (like us) first and review the data you currently hold on Sage before making the switch.
That way, you can be certain you’re converting the correct numbers to avoid any disruption to your business.
